As a midsize SUV, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a powerful off-roading vehicle that works well for daily commuting. This two-row SUV that sits five people is part of the fourth generation that was introduced in 2011, but the vehicle is anything but dated. With enhanced safety features and plush interior, the Grand Cherokee is a vehicle to consider.
Trim Levels
For the 2020 model year, Jeep reduced the number of trims available on the Grand Cherokee from 12 to seven. The current trims include Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk. The vehicle comes standard with 17-inch wheels, while the Summit adds 20-inch wheels. A power liftgate comes standard in all trims except the base.
Engine
There are four engine options with the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee as Jeep eliminated the former diesel option. The base V-6 engine produces 295 horsepower and is available on the lower five trims. There's a 360-horsepower V-8 engine that is available on all of these four trims except the base. The SRT comes exclusively with the 475-horsepower V-8 engine, while the Trackhawk gets its power behind a 707-horsepower turbocharged V-8 engine. The Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit come standard with rear-wheel drive, while the Trailhawk, SRT, and Trackhawk are only available with four-wheel drive.
Performance
For fuel economy, the Grand Cherokee gets an estimated 19 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with the base V-6 engine. The V-8 models get between 11 and 14 mpg in the city and 17 to 22 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the vehicle can tow up to 7,200 pounds.
Interior
The base Grand Cherokee includes cloth seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. As for technology, it comes standard with the Uconnect infotainment system with a 7-inch touch-screen display, two USB ports, six speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Limited trim adds leather-trimmed seats, heated steering wheel and front seats, and a premium Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch display. With the Trailhawk, you gain leather upholstery, nine-speaker audio system, and satellite radio, while the Summit includes a 19-speaker audio system and perforated Natura Plus leather seats. When it comes to cargo space, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has 36.3 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, and folding down the second row expands the space to 68.3 cubic feet of space.
Safety Features
Standard safety features found on the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee include rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, and blind-spot monitoring. Available upgrades found on all trims include forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Thanks to these safety features, the rear-wheel-drive SUV received four out of five stars by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It achieved four stars for the frontal crash test and five stars in the side crash test. The front-wheel-drive option received an overall safety score of five stars, including four stars for the rollover crash test.
